Live Brain Cells + Silicon Chips = The CL1 Computer​

Cortical Labs has released the CL1, a hybrid biological-silicon computer that integrates living brain cells with a traditional silicon chip.

The system cultivates real neurons in a nutrient-rich environment, allowing them to grow across a chip that sends and receives electrical signals.

The neurons are controlled through a Biological Intelligence Operating System (biOS), enabling researchers to interact with and deploy code directly to them.

How It Works:

• Neurons stay alive for up to six months, receiving nutrients while embedded on the silicon chip.
• The biOS software provides an interface to communicate with the neurons, allowing researchers to observe how they process information.

AI Scams: How to Recognize and Avoid Them​​​​​

AI-generated scams are growing more sophisticated, using tools that can craft messages, videos, and voice recordings that seem nearly real.

In fact, scammers used increasingly sophisticated tactics and generative AI-powered tools to steal more than $1 trillion from mobile consumers worldwide in 2024 alone, according to the Global Anti-Scam Alliance.

Cybercriminals use advanced language models to create phishing emails that appear genuine, but they often include overly formal language or miss personal details that you would expect in a message from someone you know.

Deepfake technology can create videos where faces show subtle errors, such as odd eye movements or unusual lighting, which may reveal that the image has been tampered with.

Voice cloning is also becoming more common; even if a call sounds like it's from a trusted person, the pacing or lack of natural emotion might be a sign of AI manipulation.

To protect yourself and your organization, always verify urgent requests by contacting the person directly through known channels, use multi-factor authentication to add extra security to your accounts, and consider using (but not relying on) AI-detection tools to help spot fake content.
