🧠Portable Prompt Engineering Best Practices

Prompting Across LLMs for the AI Model-Agnostic Among You

I’ve spent the last couple of years pushing AI to its limits.

From generating newsletters to navigating tense community communication as a public affairs officer, I’ve had my share of wins and head-scratchers.

And if there’s one lesson I’ve learned, it’s this: tying yourself to a single LLM is like buying a brand-new phone and only using it to make calls.

Most prompting guides play favorites.

They’ll show you how to get better output from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or whatever happens to be trending. But the tech doesn’t stand still—and neither should you.

That’s where model-agnostic prompting comes in.

Writing Instructions Across Any Language Model

Model-agnostic prompting means writing instructions that work across any language model.

You're not married to a provider. You're not hoping a price hike doesn't crush your budget. You're not rebuilding workflows every time a new model drops.

You're future-proofing. You're flexible. You're resilient.

Why It Matters More Than You Think

AI moves fast. Tying your workflow to a single model is like building on sand. Here's what model-agnostic prompting helps you avoid:

  • Vendor lock-in. Switch models without headaches.
  • Wasted money. Use lightweight models for simple tasks, and save premium ones for heavy lifting.
  • Feature FOMO. Try new tools without rewriting everything.
  • Workflow breakdowns. Maintain continuity when platforms shift.

That flexibility lets you pick the best tool for the job, not the one you’re stuck with.

Tech People, Mindyabusiness

Model Context Protocols (MCPs) have been on my radar for a while. Shamefully, I haven’t taken enough time to decipher what they are and where they matter to the rest of us.

The people with no technical background.

Those of us who are just trying to stake our claims in the age of AI.

While I’ve been teaching others how to use AI for quite some time, I largely stick to web interfaces rather than running a model locally or trying to build one of my own.

I know Python is important. I’ve taken a couple of classes for it.

But the chances of my taking over any existing programming jobs are nonexistent. So when everyone started having a cow over MCPs a few months back, I found myself extremely intimidated.

I kept wanting to make time for a complete understanding of them and how they work together with AI agents. Finally, I had some time to chat with ChatGPT about it this week.

While I’m no expert, I feel like I can actually understand and explain them now. In other words, it helped me, and I hope it can help you, too.

TOOL SPOTLIGHT: Lightricks Drops Another Open-Source AI Video Generator

video preview

Following yesterday's Skyreels spotlight, Lightricks has launched a powerful new open-source video generation model of their own, LTX Video-13B. This upgraded model, available through Lightricks' LTX Studio, boasts significantly enhanced video quality, detail, coherence, and control while maintaining impressive speed and the ability to run on consumer-grade hardware.

Building on the success of its predecessor, LTXV, this 13 billion-parameter model retains its open-source nature, allowing the AI community free access to its codebase and weights for research and development. Key advancements include multiscale rendering for refined visual details and faster high-resolution video generation, along with improvements to camera motion control, keyframe editing, and scene coherence.

Notably, LTXV-13B was trained on licensed data from Getty Images and Shutterstock, ensuring commercial safety. Lightricks aims to foster innovation by making this advanced model accessible, hoping to attract developers to its premium LTX Studio platform, which offers advanced editing tools for further creative control.
