Decide the design before the builder touches the page
A website prompt can explain the business perfectly and still produce a page that looks like every other AI demo.

AI page builders fill every blank with the patterns they have seen most often. If you provide a goal, an audience and a list of sections, the tool understands the job. It still has to guess the visual decisions. That is where the familiar gradients, oversized headlines and interchangeable rounded cards come from.
Vercel’s guidance for AI prototyping shows why structured brand context matters. A design system gives the model a set of decisions it can reuse across a page, then across the rest of the site.
Write the house rules first
Set the visual baseline. Give exact color values, typefaces, font sizes, line heights, spacing increments, corner shapes, border treatments and image style. “Warm and professional” is a mood. “Georgia headlines, Arial body copy, 8-pixel spacing and 20-pixel corners” is a system.
Show the evidence. Attach the logo, a current page, two screenshots that feel right and one example that does not. Point to the details that matter in each reference so the builder knows whether you mean the layout, color, type, photography or density.
Map the repeatable parts. Name the navigation, buttons, cards, forms, testimonials and footer patterns the page should use. State which pieces already exist and which ones the builder may create.
Define the page’s job. Tell the model who lands there, what that person should understand and what action should happen next. Good visual rules cannot rescue a page with no clear priority.
Make the model read the brief back to you
Ask for a short design summary before any code. Have the builder list the colors, type hierarchy, spacing, components and responsive rules it plans to follow. Then make it identify the decisions you left open. This takes a minute and catches the expensive misunderstandings while they are still words.
A prompt you can use
You are building a [page type] for [audience]. The page must help them [primary action]. Treat the attached brand brief, screenshots and existing components as fixed requirements. First, give me a compact summary of the color, typography, spacing, shape, image and component rules you will follow. List any missing decisions that could materially change the result, then stop for my answers. After I approve the summary, build the page with the named components. Flag any new visual pattern before you introduce it.
One final check
Review the first draft at phone and desktop widths. Check the hierarchy, spacing rhythm, button states, empty states and long-copy behavior. Save the approved rules with the project. The next page should begin with the same system, which is how a collection of AI-built pages starts to feel like one business.
